Given the surplus of recent star-studded documentaries on fracking, it is unsurprising that the environmental issue has gained tremendous public attention. In some states, the situation is even more dire than in others. Fracturing the Keystone One recent study published in Widener Law Journal argued that unconventional horizontal fracking in Pennsylvania should be considered an “abnormally dangerous” activity due to the environmental risks it poses. Helmet Use and Motorcycle Accidents: Effects on Brain Injuries and Other Costs

Helmets may cramp your style a bit, but wearing a helmet while riding a motorcycle can dramatically reduce your likelihood of getting injured or dying on the road, according to one recent study. Despite the mounting research on the safety benefits of wearing a helmet while riding a motorcycle, three U.S. states don’t have a single law requiring their usage. Many other states set age limitations on motorcycle helmet use. In Colorado, for instance, the law requires helmet usage only of riders and passengers 17 and younger. Spinal Injury Patterns in Motorcycle Accidents: What the Science Can Tell Us

Studying a population of nearly 4,000 patients from the UK’s Trauma Audit Research Network Database, researchers found that spinal injuries occurred in 11.2% of motorcyclists and 14.1% of car occupants involved in automobile accidents. Although researchers found greater instances of spinal injuries in car occupants, more severe injuries were noted in motorcyclists. A Brief (and Scary) History of Truck Industry Deregulation and How It Directly Threatens the Lives of Motorcyclists

Prior to 1980, the federal government regulated the trucking industry in the United States. However, thanks to a complex political battle, the government sudden lurched libertarian with respect to this issue, removed industry state regulations and reduced oversight. The arguments for deregulation included: increased competition, greater productivity, increased efficiency and reduced prices for goods. Opponents to deregulation worried about pollution, environmental safety, economics and conglomerates eating up small businesses and the accidental creation of monopolies. Both conservatives and liberals embraced the pro-deregulation ideas proposed through the Chicago School of Economics, also supported by at least two think tanks in Washington. …
