The Roberts Law Pedestrian Safety Scholarship is a $1,000 essay-based scholarship created to encourage students to explore one critical question: how can we make walking safer for everyone?
About the Roberts Law Pedestrian Safety Scholarship
This pedestrian safety essay contest was created to raise awareness about pedestrian crashes and the real-world steps that can help prevent them. If you care about public health, safer streets, or the way people travel in your community, this scholarship for students writing about pedestrian safety is designed for you.
Our mission is simple: encourage students to research pedestrian safety, share practical solutions, and help more people understand how preventable many pedestrian injuries and deaths are.
Pedestrian Safety by the Numbers
Pedestrian safety is a growing national concern, and it affects students and families every day:
• 7,314 pedestrians were killed in the U.S. in 2023, and more than 68,000 pedestrians were injured.
• The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) also reports 7,314 pedestrian deaths in 2023, noting pedestrians made up a meaningful share of crash fatalities.
• The Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA) reports that most fatal pedestrian crashes occur after dark, reinforcing the importance of visibility, speed, and infrastructure (lighting/crossings).
